Read morePhoenix Contractors built the Washtenaw Road Commission’s new Northeast Service Center on 10 acres off North Territorial Road in Whitmore Lake. There are multiple structures on the site. The largest building, 29,600 square feet, houses the service and maintenance facility, along with the new branch’s main office spaces. The building includes an additional 2,700 square feet of mezzanine space, and an overhead crane serves the maintenance area to wrangle components of the County’s oversize road-working equipment.
Also on-site are a 10,400 sf fully-enclosed salt barn, a vactor dump station, a multi vehicle fueling and DEF station. Challenges on this one-year project included a rural site which required a large on-site underground storage tank to supply the fire suppression system, and a complex heating system for the main building, including in-floor heat in the primary maintenance bays. A sizable on-site backup generator ensures that this critical facility will retain electrical power during utility outages.
